Vistercil's Vizslas is a small family run kennel located in Alpine, California near San Diego. We strive to breed truly excellent dogs - in temperament, conformation, health and field ability. Our puppies are raised in a family environment and homes are selected with great care.

Our goal is to produce versatile Vizslas who are family companions and are suited for hunting, obedience and show. The puppy's temperament is of prime importance and we focus our breeding program on producing friendly, outgoing and happy puppies.

Because our puppies are raised in a family environment, they are socialized and exposed to many sights and sounds before going to their new homes. They are placed with a puppy contract which includes a guarantee for inherited health problems. The health guarantee covers hip dysplasia until the puppy is two years old at which time the owner will be expected to have the puppy OFA certified. If inherited health problems arise, 50% of the price of the puppy will be refunded. I do not believe in puppy replacements as it is inpractical for a family to give up a dog that has become part of their lives. Dogs will not be replaced after they are bred.

Each puppy also leaves with a non-breeding contract. I also ask each puppy owner to sign an agreement to return the puppy to my home if for any reason they find they are unable to care for it. I would rather find the puppy a new home than to find it in a pound somewhere.

Now for some final advice for those of you who may be new Vizsla owners. I have found it helpful to adhere to a strict set of rules when you first bring your puppy home. This will keep things in perspective as you begin to fall head over heels in love with your puppy and your heart takes precedent over best laid plans. The following rules may be helpful to begin with. We posted them in our home to give us a sense of control, even when we had none....

Dog Rules

1. The dog is not allowed in the house.
2. OK, the dog can come into the house but only with certain rules.
3. The dog is allowed in all rooms but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The dog can get on the old furniture.
5. Fine. The dog is allowed on all furniture but is not allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed.
6. OK, the dog is allowed to sleep on the bed but only by invitation.
7. The dog can sleep on the bed whenever it wants but not under the covers.
8. The dog can sleep under the covers by invitation only.
9. The dog can sleep under the covers every night.
10. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the dog.
11. Rule #1 never works with Vizslas so don't even try it! See how long it takes to get from rule #2 to rule #10. The record so far is....well, I guess I will just let you see for yourself. What can you do when a Vizsla owns you?
